How to Install Active Mixer Devices for Windows Xp

Toshiba Satellite A100 VA3 / PSAANC-VA305C Intel Pentium Dual Core. This machine came with Vista Home Premium but crashed for some reason and I couldn't restore Vista even using the neosmart recovery disc and the Toshiba recovery discs.
Toshiba doesn't ship the OS disc and Staples/Office Depot wanted eighty bucks to install an operating system that we have paid for twice now.
I wiped the hard drive of partitions and installed XP Pro. The machine works better than it ever did except now I have no sound. It tells me that there is no active mixer installed. Tried to download WMP11 and it keeps saying it was not installed properly. Downloaded WinAmp and still nothing. All I can find in device manager under Sound, video and game controllers is:
Audio Codecs
Legacy audio drivers
Legacy Video Capture devices
Media control devices
Video Codecs
All of which say "This device is working properly."
Tried downloading audio drivers from Toshiba and on install it say's there is nothing to install them in.
I'm getting to the point where I'll re-boot it with a pair of size 12 Doc Martins.

Still won't install. Downloaded the driver you suggested but it said the new hardware found was not installed. It ran a disc check on restart because the down load moved a system 32 dll.

I looked on Toshiba's site and found that your laptop should have a Realtek HD Audio sound in it.

Try this one directly from Realtek. http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloads...p;GetDown=false

You will look for a category that says "Windows 2000, Windows XP/2003(32/64 bits) Driver only (Executable file)" and click one of the "go" to the right of it.

Also, if you have the Toshiba part number from the bottom of the laptop, it would help greatly in sourcing the proper drivers.

OK Tech. Downloaded that driver as well and it would not install either. I figured it may need the MS security updates first so like a fool I let it install the XP service pack 3. Upon restart I got continuous reboot and then the blue screen of death and it started dumping physical memory. I shut it off, inserted the OS disc and wiped the partition and did a fresh install of XP Pro. Going through device manger I found that there are no motherboard resources drivers installed and it won't update them. So here's what I can tell you about the system.

XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2
Toshiba A100 VA3
Model- PSAANC-VA305C
Chipset- Mobile Intel 945GM Express ??
Intel Dual Core Pentium
Genuine Intel CPU T2060 @ 1.60GHz
Genuine Intel CPU T2060 @ 1.60GHz
798 MHz 0.99 GB of RAM
Under sound video and game controllers the list is:
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Video Codecs..... All of the above say the devices are working properly.

Anything else you need, just ask.

I did a google trying to find the correct driver for your model.
From what I found XP was never offered for your model.
I read posts on several other forums from people with the same unit that had installed XP on it & could not find a sound driver that works.

My advice is to put the OS back on the unit that belongs on it & you can get the proper drivers for.
Sometimes things may installl but simplt not work properly.
In this case it seems XP may install but the proper drivers for all devices simply isn't available.

The driver I supplied the link to was for the onboard sound that is supposed to be on the unit.
It, as well as the driver from the link teacherextreme supplied, should have worked, apparently neither does.

Thanks for that fairjoe. Certainly sucks like a three dollar hooker though. Is there any way to burn windows vista from my wife's new Satellite L300 O7R? I've been told not bloody likely. It's just that it really cheese's my onions that we've paid for two of these machines and got no OS Disc with either one. The bastards at Staples want 80 bucks plus tax just to put it back to the factory settings, and that ain't right. I hate to type this out loud but I may have to go commando on Lime Wire looking for a copy. I've got kids to feed and Billy and Melinda don't.

When you get a new computer with no disks there is usually the option to burn your own reinstall disks
I did a google for "How to make a Vista reinstall disk on a Toshiba laptop"

You should be able to find something that will help.

I DID IT!!!!!
I found this site http://tinyurl.com/lasezf Toshiba - Australia and New Zealand.
I went for an older model A100 PSAA8A with the driver for the Realtek ALC861 Audio Driver.
I'll be damned if it doesn't actually work.
It will be a few days before I get the courage to try the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility so I can load the motherboard resources drivers.
But hey, I've got Ccleaner, AdAware SE Anniversary Edition, Limewire and Live Messenger set up and running finally.
And it's running better now with XP Pro than it ever did with Vista.

You might want to burn that driver to a disk or at least make a note of what model it's from.

Maybe some of the people on the other forums I looked at will find this topic.
A lot of people sure seemed to be looking for a driver for XP !

Going from Vista to XP Pro was a real pain, but for me it was worth it.
I've used it for so long it's like old shoes. Vista...not so much.
I initially installed the WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.
After that things got a lot smoother. I even got Media player 11 installed and working.
And yes, the drivers? They've been added to my growing stack of discs.
